Interesting tid bit concerning "I Will" I've recently had the opportunity to re join a folk trio I sang with a few years back. We were known as the "Grand Folk Trio", currently the name is the "Elderly Brothers Trio". If you think that's weird there's at least one other group using that name!.
I absolutely love the FLT version of "I Will". The banjo MAKES the song. The leader of the group I recently re joined feels other wise. Still a Great song.

There are some interesting things about all of this .....
Many believe that John Stewart's version of Some Day Soon was one of his best singing efforts when he was in the Trio.
Another interesting thing is ... the Trio's two banjo players ... Guard and Stewart were the Trio's worst singers.
But, they were the Trio's best instrumentalists because they were both finger pickers.
Dave was a far better banjo player that John because Dave could finger pick Scruggs style and he could also frail.
The Trio was very successful for two reasons. They sang and played songs of many types. They had something for everyone.
The second reason was that of these different types of songs, they picked the best ones.
This was especially true of new songs and new song writers.
Shane once said that the big mistake they made was not writing their own songs.
I don't agree.
Stewart wrote some good songs.
I can't see anyone else in the Trio writing songs.
Some of the big music stars that came after the Trio have given the Trio credit for what they did... they learned from the Trio.
Undoubtedly, The Eagles were the most successful in this regard and they wrote their own songs. They're two leaders have said that they purposely set out to write hits. And, they did it. I've never heard them say they got anything from the Trio, but they had to. Their long-time 2nd bass player is a big Trio fan. Nick gave him one of his tenor guitars.
Don Henley announced that the current Eagles tour is the last one ... for sure. Age is catching up to these guys.
Their Greatest Hits album has sold more copies than any other album..... still.
None of their songs ever appealed to me... except... Take it Easy and Jackson Brown wrote it.
I bought their greatest his album in about 1998... played a few songs from it and quit. They didn't impress me.
It took a while, but Crosby, Stills and Nash did... I remember seeing their first album at the PX when I was in the Army.
Also, I didn't like The Beatles at all at first. They grew on me.
