Having owned over a dozen Deep Bowl, high-end Ovations, and Adamas guitars since 1978, this is my first purchase of a Mid-Depth Bowl model. The quality of this guitar is flawless and its understated elegance makes me smile. The guitar arrived with a perfect setup and is so easy and fun to play!
The acoustic tone of this late-March 2024 S/N Ovation Adamas MD80-NWT Mid-Depth Contour Bowl Cutaway Acoustic-Electric, Natural Woven Texture is full and clear with a nice resonance in the bass register. Before ordering this guitar I was worried it would have a shallow-sounding bass and an overall shallow-sounding tonal resonance compared to the Deep-Bowl models. Although the bass resonance is less than the Deep-Bowl models the MD80 has enough bass that it still sounds full and balances well with the mid- and treble registers. The guitar has plenty of sustain. Plugged in, the MD80 has a balanced tone across the frequency spectrum with all chords and notes sounding clear and rounded. The OP Pro Studio preamp enables easily adjusted and controlled shaping of the amplified tone for any venue. The OP Pro Studio preamp also features adjustable Compression and Harmonic Enhancement.
