I'm not sure where I read this, but according to someone who knew Bob Shane very well said that in his will Bob was leaving his sons
only the "original" Kingston Trio albums recorded by Bob, Nick Reynolds and Dave Guard.

Peter ..........
I'm in agreement with you ....
there were 2 Kingston Trios.
I'd actually go so far as to say there were 3.
The first time I heard Bob, Jim and Pat ....
I was in a state of shock.
They called themselves "The New Kingston Trio."
But, in my mind ... they were as far away from being the Kingston Trio than anything that I could possibly imagine.
Especially since Pat Horine was from Lexington, Ky ... where I'm from .... and we were the same age and I knew him as an acquaintance.
However .....
I saw these guys a total of 4 times.
They eventually grew on me.
Many years later .... I'd give them credit for being the 3rd Kingston Trio because they had a lot of new songs.
They were trying very hard to be The Kingston Trio.
In my mind, all trios after that were tribute groups with Bob as an original member, and later Nick as one.
I understand why they did nearly all old songs.
It was what people wanted to hear.
The Kingston Trio set itself apart from all other "folk groups" by being entertainers.
Certainly not protestors.
They wanted people to have fun at their shows and nothing else.
Even though they were darn good singers (Bob and Nick) I'd add Zorn, George and Rick later as darn good singers. I never liked Roger.
Their lifestyles were certainly a part of what they were perceived to be.
Their personalities were very important.
But, probably the most important thing about these guys was their song selection. All of their songs were memorable in some way...even Goo ga gee (Horrible)
Plus this one..
