We’ve been good friends for some time … but, hadn’t talked in a while.
Mark told me that the Pandemic is what has made it very difficult for the Bros4 to get bookings.
People our age don’t want to leave home for a concert.
They have a few shows scheduled for 2025…. But, they’re not on the web site yet.
Bob Flick is still in good health.
Mark told me that John Paine died on 11/09/2024….
Here’s what I found on-line
John Paine
Born: 11/26/37 Okanogan, WA. To John L. And Faye Paine
Died: 11/09/24 Port Ludlow, WA.
John leaves behind a very close and loving family.
His beloved wife of over 40 years, Gail Paine
His brother, Brett Paine and wife Pam
His son, Scott Paine and wife Andrea and their daughter Macy
His daughter, Liz Hagenlocher (who preceded him in death) her husband Chris and their sons Christian and his wife Rochelle, Kevin and his wife Paighton, their daughter Spencer and son Turner
His son, John M. Paine and wife Jennifer, and their daughters Olivia and Georgia
First wife and mother of his 3 children, Libby Paine
Great Nephew, Doug McKenney and other extended family members.
John attended the University of Washington and was a Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity member. There he met Bob Flick, Dick Foley, Mike Kirkland and the four became the folk music group THE BROTHERS FOUR. Over the years, John had a wonderful life singing, touring the world, having adventures and comradery with all the members of THE BROTHERS FOUR.
He also leaves behind numerous close friends and world-wide fans who will always remember his kindness, puns, great stories, music and loving smile.
He will be greatly missed, but forever in our hearts.
His son John wrote: On Saturday, my Dad passed away. I will forever be grateful for his wisdom, calm demeanor, bad puns and great stories. Mostly though, was the way he treated everyone he met with unconditional love and acceptance. He was the best example (of a father) for me, and a wonderful "Papa" to my girls. John Paine, we love you OCEANSFULL
His son Scott wrote: My family and I appreciate all the love and support you've shown us this past week. As one of the original members of The Brothers Four, my Dad lived a life that was filled with some unique moments and opportunities. Here's just a few. He attended JFK's Inaugural Ball and sang at The White House on multiple occasions. He sang at the Academy Awards. The Brothers Four were one of the few opening acts selected by Ed Sullivan when the Beatles performed at the Paramount Theater in New York City on September 20th 1964. He had drinks with Mickey Mantle. He had what he described as "an interesting conversation" with Bob Dylan. He sat in on Barbra Streisand's very first recording session. He sang on The Ed Sullivan Show. He sang on The Tonight Show. He went Christmas shopping at FAO Schwarz with Tony Bennett. And despite all these rather unique opportunities, John Paine was one of the most down-to-earth and real people you'd ever want to meet and we were blessed to have him as long as we did. We miss you and we love you Dad.
There will be a private memorial service. Remembrances may go to Seattle's Union Gospel Mission or a charity of your choice.
Mark is still very busy doing his thing with his music partner of almost 60 years and his wife .. who is a great photographer.
