I had a very similar experience on a business trip to rural Ohio. The only hotel in the town ran perpendicular to the nearby railroad crossing and the rooms closest to the tracks included ear plugs for the daily 3 AM freight and the clanging crossing bells.
'Cause the rattle and the clatter of that old [not so] fast freight
Keeps a-makin' music in my ear Previous Message
Many years ago, almost fifty now, my wife and I and our new born Son vacationed in Williamsburg, VA and booked a few nights at a bed and breakfast outside the historic village. What we didn't know, and soon found out, there was a railway track running behind the house, not 100 feet from the home. Must have been a spur or something because only one train came through every night. Around three in the morning. A freight train which must have been a hundred cars long. Quite an experience. They were nice folks though and even watched our two month old Son so we could go out to a fancy dinner in Old Williamsburg. As I listen for the whistle, lie awake and wait, wish the railroad didn't run so near... Previous Message
