Max....Are you thinking of Playboy After Dark? That show's theme sounds very much like Previn's tune but was actually Playboy's Theme by Cy Coleman. JS appeared on the 2/21/69 show.
Coleman had previously collaborated with Dorothy Fields to write the songs for the Broadway musical Sweet Charity, which included If My Friends Could See Me Now and Big Spender.
