the song on the UK tape that always blew me a way was this one....little did I know back then....that the Vietnam War was just around the corner... a great Rod McKeun song....
I saw NBJ 3 times after that.
The first time in 1965 at Louisville's Freedom Hall....
Next at a college in KY...
Morehead University....Jackee was with me for this one....so was my pal Tom McGoodwin... I don't remember anything about the show....but I do remember that night when we got back to Lexington. Tom was in college and he lived in a southern mansion that was on a horse farm way out in the country called "Old Beaumont Place." His roommates were all in law school, and they all owned sports cars. The house had a pool and a tennis court. The kitchen was as big as our first house. Each bedroom had its own giant bathroom. An incredible night there that I'll never forget. Today, it's in the middle of town, on South Limestone and it's an office park. Part of the circular driveway is still there.
We next saw the Trio in Nashville at the Ryman on a Sunday afternoon. I remember this concert very well. There were two new songs I hadn't heard before. Thirsty Boots and One too many mornings. This was in November 1966.
Some time after the first of the year, they dropped the bomb.
Life has never been the same since then for me.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine I'd get to be friends with these guys 25 years later.
