There was a recent discussion on the Banjo Hangout about Vega longneck banjos, and it contains some photos and information about Dave's two longnecks that you might find interesting.

As one of the photos shows, Dave toured with two longnecks when he was with the Trio. If I remember the story correctly, he had one in open G tuning and one in drop C tuning. The fellow who took the photo said that Dave told him he didn't like to change tunings on stage.

Mike Halloran, who posted the photos and information about Dave, is an ardent Trio fan. When Dave's second longneck surfaced about a decade ago, Mike was the fellow who authenticated it. That, in itself, is a wild story.
