Max - the south fork of Long Island is a beautiful resort area. The Hamptons, near Sag Harbor, are a playground for the rich and famous. I am guessing Jimmy was living there or at least spending the summer there. The Hamptons face the ocean but Sag Harbor is on the Peconic/Gardiners bay side, probably a bit more mellow than the Hamptons. I remember visiting a whaling museum there as a kid when we were passing nearby on a drive to Montauk. I am guessing good sailing in the bays. I grew up in Queens NY (the other end of Long Island) and we would visit more middle class places on Long Island for vacation or day trips, Montauk on the south fork and Greenport on the north fork. Montauk has a famous light house and I believe Simon and/or Garfunkel contributed to a charity that supports it. I believe Judy Collins and Steven Stills were living in the general Sag Harbor area when Suite Judy Blue Eyes was composed - maybe someone can research it.
