Re: Kingston Trio Reunion in 1981
I learnt alot on this Reunion thread. For one, I never knew Dave Guard had it in mind to retire the name "Kingston Trio" had he purchased the KT brand instead of Bob Shane. This means only Dave Guard singing with Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds could use the name Kingston Trio. What about John Stewart? Surely, John made a very strong contribution to the trio after Dave quit. Look at all their hits and album sales.
So if Dave Guard bought the name Kingston Trio, then John Stewart gets dismissed? Then when Bob Shane "reforms" the KT, singing with George Grove and Roger Gambill and Bill Zorn, and so on, he can use the name "New Kingston Trio"? Is that it? How did Dave feel watching Bob Shane and George Grove and Roger Gambill singing together as "The Kingston Trio" at the Reunion Show? Somebody call the police.
The best thing about this thread is the passion shown by Kingston Trio fans about a concert that happened over 40 years ago. The legacy of the KT matters very much to all of us who visit this message board. The history is all we have left of them. Thanks to all who posted. MTABob
