I was a student at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Bowling Green is an hour North of Nashville.....
For Christmas that year ........
My mother gave me a Magnavox STEREO FM radio....
It came with two big speakers for stereo.
Stereo FM radio was brand new then.
Every night, after studying ....
I listened to a Nashville FM radio station.
There was a show at 11 that was hosted by a DJ ... Ron Mosier.
He played the best NEW stereo recordings of the kind of music that's now known as "The American Song Book."
Every night, he played some of the best songs of the time then.
There were 4 or 5 of these songs that I loved.
And, I got the albums for them.
Later .... I got the CDs for them.
Two of the songs are still very much a part of my life.
One is a song that Liza did in a Broadway musical.
The name of the song is .... "A Quiet Thing."
Ron played the Percy Faith version....
But, to really get the impact of this song, you have to hear the words.
Another one of the songs that Ron played was a song that was on Tony Bennett's THIRD "Best of" album.
The song is .... "Once Up On A Time," also from a Broadway musical.
I don't listen to this song very often...
It makes me too sad....
Because ... at this same time ....
I'd learned that the girl I dated all through high school, and up until that summer ....
Was marrying someone else...
I was sure we'd get married ....
After she finished college.
When I asked her .... why she didn't want to marry me....
She said....
How could you ever believe that my father would let me marry someone who is Jewish?
Nothing like good old Southern ignorance and prejudice.
God was certainly looking after me that time.
Anyway.... here's the song..
This was the first Tony Bennet album that I bought.
I got all of the albums before it.... and never missed one after it.

The tributes for Tony are pouring in like crazy......
This man was loved by many, many people.......
And, I got to thinking......
So was Bob Shane !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do you think?
