I don’t know why, but for some reason, this anniversary meant more to me than before.
I think it’s probably because I’m beginning to realize that I’m getting older.
(I’m not going to say that I’m old. I’ll never say that.)
We were going to go to a new seafood restaurant.
So, around 4 in the afternoon…. I took a nap.
I wanted to rest up for the big event.
I woke up at 9 that night.
Jackee took a nap too.
But, she didn’t sleep as late as I did.
We decided to get Chinese.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooo
Off I went to the Chinese take-out we use.
At one time, there were three Chinese restaurants near us.
Now, there is just one.
I don’t know why the other two are gone.
What’s most important to me … when it comes to Chinese is …….
The Hot and Sour Soup.
Bob Shane got me hooked on the stuff ….
I’d say it was in about 1993.
I had to be in Atlanta for business.
I knew that Shane was at home then, and I called him to see if he wanted to get together.
He told me to meet him at a Chinese restaurant at the big mall on Peach Tree.
I can’t remember the name of it.
I ordered ….
He said, “You’re not getting Hot and Sour Soup?
You have to get Hot and Sour Soup.”
So, I did.
If you haven’t had it before …..
It will hit you pretty hard the first time.
I’m convinced that it will cure all ills.
If you have it 3 or 4 times a year…..
You should have no worries.
That’s what I’ve been doing ever since Bob got me on to it.
Well, like everything else…..
The cost of Chinese food has been going up.
So, to save a little money, I stopped at the grocery and got frozen egg rolls.
We usually get shrimp and snow peas.
So, this time, I got a box of egg rolls, some frozen shrimp because the meat counter was already closed, and a box of Kroger fried rice.
At the Chinese restaurant…. I got the soup, and the assorted vegetables.
The last two times … the soup has not been right.
Missing some ingredients … too thick taste not up to par. Too salty.
Happened again.
I think it was because I got there so late…I got was at the bottom of the barrel.
The frozen shrimp and the frozen egg rolls were OK.
Kroger’s fried rice sucked.
Next time, I’m going to make the rice from scratch.
Did I save any money?
It probably ended up costing more….but, we got more shrimp.
I’m going to have to talk to the management about the soup.
It was an OK anniversary.
I have a cousin who remembers.
No one else in either of our families.
None of the people who were in our wedding (who aren’t dead) remember.
It’s nice to have some friends to wish you well.
56 years is a very long time.
