Okaaaay, I've got lots of interviews on tape featuring GORDON LIGHTFOOT in addition to JONI MITCHELL and IAN TYSON and SYLVIA TYSON and LEONARD COHEN, etc....
including a pretty good interview with our beloved BOB SHANE.

Trouble is, due to our recent move a few years ago, most of them are still in storage.
I've been meaning to unpack these boxes, but life kinda gets in the way, and I never seem to get around to it.
But one of these days I will definitely pull out those tapes and share those interviews with Kingston Crossroaders.

Meanwhile, not to let you down about what inspires GORDON LIGHTFOOT to write songs...how 'bout the inspiration for:

<> "SUNDOWN"

In 1970, GORDON LIGHTFOOT was inspired to write a song entitled "SUNDOWN". This had to do with his stormy relationship with a girl named Cathy Smith.

Remember Cathy Smith? / She's the gal who was sent to prison for delivering a lethal dose of heroin to John Belushi. [charge: Involuntary Manslaughter]

Anyhow, the night GORDON LIGHTFOOT wrote "SUNDOWN" he was sitting at home stressing out over Cathy Smith.
Apparently, Cathy went out to a bar with her friends, and Gordon was worried she would hook up with some other guy.

Hard to imagine Cathy Smith would leave Gordon for some "common stranger" but who can tell about girls, eh? (hahaha)
(there is no accounting for taste) Meanwhile....

GORDON LIGHTFOOT stared out the window as the sun was going down. (ie: "Sundown")
Gordon picked up his guitar, began plucking the strings one by one, and improvised words about how Cathy Smith was affecting him:

"I can see her lying back in her satin dress in a room where you do what you don't confess.
Sundown, you better take care if I find you creeping 'round my back stairs."
