Re: Full "Dave's Place" Episode
Ken, I would love to see them all. Don't understand why we can't after 58 years!!
Not much to say on this Max.
This was episode 11 of 13 on the Dave's Place show. By this time it was beginning to run out of puff. I think that some of the earlier episodes were better.
Union pressures and contract restrictions prevented Dave from having all the people that he wanted in the show.
For example, Lou Gottleib, Judy Collinns, Bud & Travis, Josh White and The Rooftop Singers were in the country at the time but they were not able to appear.
Consequently, they often used some lesser known performers, some of whom were from Europe.
Dave was into his electric gospel phase at this time too, as is obvious from the two songs he did on this episode. Influenced a lot by The Staples Singers.
The Dave's Place Group was using its third and last female singer, Norma Stoneman, here.
I do not know the guy that posted this. He obviously had some contact with The Australiam Broadcasting Corporation because he has posted several of their old 1960s programs on his You Tube channel. I must say that the video quality of this clip is much worse than the ones that I have had for some time. The original show was transferred from videotape to film for archive purposes and most of the copied version suffered from a vertical linearity problem, as is evident here. You will notice that a small icon has been blocked-out in the bottom right-hand corner. I don't have it so it is not one of mine.
