Great article....

I bought the book shortly after it cam out.

I really enjoyed it.

Before reading the book, I was not a big Ian fan.

The book made me one.

It wasn't that I didn't like him....

I just hadn't paid much attention to him.

I was a very male ... and not female fan during the 60s folk thing.

For me, no one could match Ronnie Gilbert.

I hated Mary Traver's shrieking voice.

The only female "folk" singer that I ever liked was the gal in We Five ... momentary brain fart.

So, Ian and Sylvia were not on my list.

I do have one lasting Ian and Sylvia memory.

In 1986, we went with our best friends, another couple, to explore California.

We flew from Louisville to San Diego.

There, we rented a monster Lincoln Towncar and we spent 3 weeks driving up the coast of California, to San Francisco. From where we flew back to Kentucky.

Our friends had been in college with another couple who lived in LA.

They wanted to show us the area, and we drove to Big Bear, and then on to the desert, and Palm springs.

Our tour guides brought with them some cassettes to play during the trip, and one of the cassettes had all of Ian and Sylvia's album.

In 1986, VHS video recorders with cameras were new, and a friend loaned me his camera. I had the rest, which was a two part piece of equipment. There was a cigarette adapter power source for it so you could run it in a car.

You could get 6 hours on a VHS tape, and I had the camera on a tripod on the hump in the front seat.

So, I have 6 hours of tape of our trip with Ian and Sylvia singing in the background.

At one point in our trip, we were very high up, and we encountered some sky divers. I took lots of footage of them jumping off the cliff and landing far far away.

I haven't seen this tape in a long time. It's in a box somewhere in the basement, I hope. Jackee always kids me about not wanting to watch 6 hours of driving in California...I'm hoping that the tape hasn't ruined.

In 1986, we were still young...we were 42 to be exact. A far cry from 78 now.

The guy in the couple who were our best friends, who attended many Trio concerts with us died about 4 years ago. His wife has since re-married.

I've always considered our trip to California my trip of a lifetime.

Having 6 hours of it on tape ...hard to beat... with Ian and Sylvia singing in the background.

It will turn up some day. Soon ... I hope.

I looked for my copy of the book...can't find it either.

I did find the book, Four Strong Winds.
