Seems like a long long time ago, but Norm & I used to have very interesting, thought-provoking discussions here on Kingston Crossroads.
Looking back, I can categorize these discussions into three categories.....
>>> The Good, The Bad & The Ugly <<<
As stated previously by Peter, Norm's favourite KINGSTON TRIO record was GOIN' PLACES.
And yes, Norm did in fact refer to GOIN' PLACES as the Trio's TOUR DE FORCE.
Although Dave Guard's departure album was pretty good, I felt it didn't hold a candle to AT LARGE or STRING ALONG.
I could have kept my mouth shut, but I felt if Norm could express his opinion, why not me ???
So I told Norm about AT LARGE and STRING ALONG being "superior" to GOIN' PLACES. After all, it's only an opinion.
In fact, arguably HERE WE GO AGAIN and SOLD OUT were also better albums.
Norm came back at me "ugly on ape" as GUNSMOKE's Festus used to say. Oh boy, did I get a mouthful !!! (hahaha)
So Norm and I had many "back & forth" discussions, but we grew to like each other, and we developed a mutual respect.
All things being said, I feel Norm Gauch contributed greatly to this Kingston Crossroads forum; a tremendous asset.
I miss him. And if I had to put it all in a lump sum, I'd say without question, Norm was opinionated.....
=> But Lovable !!!
Rest In Peace, Kingston Trio Fan. You Are Missed.
