I've had the privledge of singing through a "Neumann"at one time $$$$ of course.

For live performing the mic is ONE component of the sound system, the combination can make the difference. The Shure 58 is the standard and can get the job done , assuming the rest of the system is up to snuff. The Shure Beta is a step up. I've used both and can't really tell a difference.
