No trip to Nashville could ever be complete without visiting this historic place.
It wasn’t just a record store …..
It was a museum that was dedicated to old time country music.
I can’t believe that this has happened.
It should have been on the historic register.
The last time I was there was in 1991.
I had a deal cooking in Nashville and had a meeting there where I made my pitch.
The meeting was at 10am.
We were living in Lexington, KY then.
I got up early and drove like a bat out of hell and made it there on time, with a little room to spare.
I found the office building where the meeting took place without a great deal of difficulty. Which, for me, was a miracle because of my bad sense of direction.
BTW, Shane had a great sense of direction. I’ll say that he knew every major town and city in the U.S. like the back of his hand. He also knew theaters. There weren’t many that he hadn’t played. I remember one theater where they did a show ….whoever was in charge there didn’t believe him when he told them that the Trio had done a show there back in the late 1950s. So, he showed them the place on the wall … high up where you could barely seem them … the signatures that they’d put on the wall with some chalk.
I’d passed a Waffle House on the way that wasn’t far from where the meeting was to be held. I wanted some coffee before the meeting … but, I decided not to risk it.
The meeting went fine. I made my pitch and I felt like I might have gotten somewhere wit the people I met with.
The office building was way the heck out somewhere off the Interstate on the way to Memphis.
As I was coming back through Nashville I decided to see what was going on there.
My first stop was Gruhn’s. https://guitars.com
I don’t remember what I saw there. I’d been there before. It’s a good place to get strings. Anything else, you better have had a recent visit from Ed McMahon to afford any of their instruments.
I’d heard that Clint Black had made an album with Roy Rogers, and I went to Tubb’s record shop to see if they had one….they did and I got two … one for me and one for my pal Carlos. The vinyl was colored. It was a very special album.
I’d been there before during a previous trip … but, while I was there I looked around some more. There was plenty to see.
In one of the videos below there’s a tour of the shop…… It’s something to see.
It’s a good thing I got that album…because of a song on it… “Hold On.”
That’s what I had to do because my deal didn’t come through….
BTW, I just made another pitch…by mail …the US postal service told me that it would arrive today before noon. It’s 12:27 now….maybe this time I’ll have some luck….
My theme song …..
Max
