I'm a huge fan of Steve Goodman and appreciate his fondness of the great old standards. I found an album with As Time Goes By on it. I was expecting a very nice version, however I was quite disappointed to hear he'd tried to do a "Funny" take on it. That's just me. Thanks again for the heads up.
Terry....the website I mentioned in an earlier post [secondhandsongs] lists over 630 recorded versions of As Time Goes By , vocal, instrumental and in foreign languages. There are links to YouTube videos for many of them. Among the wide spectrum of artists listed are Tiny Tim, Lorne Greene, Spike Jones, and Bob Dylan.
Yes not so classic, the disco/rap (whatever) leading up to it, equally as "Enjoyable"?
All seriousness aside, I recall seeing Little Richard in a TV skit, take off on "Casablanca" and he did a somewhat respectable version of "As Time Goes By". A very special song for me....It's the last song my Father taught me to play on guitar, a few weeks before his sudden death. TC
For a not so classic version of Memories , check out YouTube for Little Richard's take on it...but at your own risk.
Written by Terry Gilkyson, who accompanied Dean on the record. Classic!
