Waaay back when, my Dad noticed I had an interest in the Kingston Trio, he mentioned "If you're gonna play THAT STUFF"...some day you'll want a Martin guitar.
Many years later, after he'd passed on, a close friend of his sort of demanded I sell him a Vega banjo, a plectrum that my dad had received from his good pal, Eddie Peabody.
Remembering my dad telling me I'd want a Martin guitar some day, I sold his friend the Vega and used the proceeds to buy my first martin. This would have been around 1973. I bought a beautiful new D 41. The neck was only slightly bigger than a Louisville slugger baseball bat. Regardless of what kind of strings I'd use, it sounded like a piano. It went back to Martin TWICE, also had qualified local techs do "Set up" It was NEVER right. After many MANY years, I gave up and sold it. I used some of those proceeds to buy my next Martin. A 2002 D 17 that plays like a dream and has it's own wonderful deep sound. I even had the honor of loaning it (something I almost NEVER will do) to George Grove once.
But alas..no D 45....yet :>)
What Terry ??????????????
No D-45 ???????
Many, many, many moons ago.....
Bob Shane called me from ......
I can't remember where now.....
