Having said that, as famous 5 string players go, John McKuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Biscuit Davis and what ever became of Jimmy Henley? Back in the day, he was a heck of a 5 string player as just a pre teenager. He would remain part of Roy Clark's show for a long time. Heave heard anything of him in a very long time.
With the resent passing of Sonny Osborne, I began to think about all the Grade A banjoists, both living and dead. I have come up with a list of my favorites and am sure I am missing some other great ones. I have purposefully left out Dave Guard and John Stewart. They were both great banjo players and had their own style that worked for the KT, but I don’t believe they were in the same league with my list below Can you add to this list:
Keith Arnesen – US Navy Country Current
Doug Dillard
Earl Scruggs
Pete Wernick
Jens Kruger
Roy Clark
Buck Trent
Tony Trishka
Bela Fleck
Alison Brown
Kristin Benson
J.D. Crowe
Sonny Osborne
Eric Weissberg
George Grove
