I had the same experience, Rick. I got a 1952 0-18T in excellent condition off eBay for $850.
I tune it like Nick (DGBE) for KT songs, but for using it as lead melody on old-timey songs such as Take Me Out to the Ball Game, I tune it in plectrum banjo tuning (CGBD).
I agree Mac. I bought my 1962 0-18T eight years ago on eBay for under a thousand dollars. It had one bad tuner, and a luthier I sometimes use found an original set of tuners and replaced them all for me. I love the little thing!
