Terry...the song was originally based on a poem by Oswald Durand about a Haitian woman with that name. It was later rewritten with English lyrics as Yellow Bird
. The English lyrics have no connection with the poem's narrative. Calypso Heat Wave
must be in the Public Domain as it is available for free on YouTube. Hopefully YouTube won't crash with the rush of folks to view it.

Is "Chocoune" Haitian for "Yellow Bird" ?
The Tarriers tune is from the eminently forgettable 1957 film Calypso Heat Wave . It was billed as "The Screen's First Great Calypso Musical" [there were others?]. Even better, it was from the producers of Rock Around The Clock! Besides Banana Boat Song , the Tarriers also perform the traditional Haitian folk song Chocoune .
