Re: Dave Batti You could never find a nicer guy
In my one and only trip to camp, 2017, I noticed Dave jumping in to play bass for some of the open mic performers. Not having ever met the guy, I decided not to pester him by asking for bass accompaniment. After hanging around and jamming with whomever I could, I know wish I'd have asked him. He seems like a down to earth nice fella...and having a bass player makes a nice addition.
My connections with John Stewart .........
over the years.......
We talked may times
But, usually not more than 30 seconds.
We did have two longer talks.
One was in 1965 I belive.
The Trio did its first show in Louisville.
My buddies and I went to the airport to meet them.
We asked John if he wanted a ride to the hotel and he jumped in our car.
This was my first real encounter with a member of the Kingston Trio.
Many years later, I was at one of John's shows in Louisville and Dave Batti was playing with him.
I asked John if he remembered us giving him a ride to the hotel. he said No.
I bought John's Last Campaign album at this show. I asked John to autograph it....
Above his signature ... he wrote: Thanks for the ride.
I told him I was from Lexington, where his father was born, and I asked him if the show in Lexington had any special significance. he said no
Over the years I saw John many times. But, not much ever said. Dave and I talked too. Much more said.
