Not a bad song IMHO..the CD itself gets high marks from yours truly.
Topic being are any of us born at the right time? I re call a story my Mother told me about my own birth. As the youngest and "Un planned" in the family, I was also the only one born in a hospital. My Mother summoned a nurse and told her it's time for the baby, the nurse replies, that can't be these other two women were here first! True story...
Here's a trivia question. What are the first words of a child who was born in early September?
I don’t because it doesn’t say what I think it should say….
When I first got this CD ……
I looked to see what songs were on it.
I saw this song called, “Born At The Right Time.”
I thought to myself “Wow!!!!!!!”
That should be cool !!!!!!!
All of us here……
We all think it’s true.
We all believe that we were born at the right time……
I believe that I was born at the EXACT right time…..
Not in years, not in months, weeks, or days……..
But, in hours and minutes.
3 hours and 20 minutes… to be exact
On June 17, 1967 ………
I was 22 years old and I’d spent the last 22 years preparing for what happened on this day at…..
At 7:20 pm
Jackee and I got married in Louisville, Kentucky…
(It was a decisive turn in both of our lives.)
Our wedding began at 7:00 pm and I figure that about 20 minutes passed before the minister spoke the magic words….”I now pronounce you man and wife.”
There are people here who were in San Francisco at that exact time.
In San Francisco …. it was 4:20 in the afternoon.
3 hours later…these people would be at the Hungry i for Nick, Bob and John’s last show.
On June 17, 1967, at 7:20 pm……..
I was supposed to stop being a kid.
I was getting married….
Here I am ….. 54 years later………….
And, a big part of me is still a kid.
Because I was born at the right time.
I was born at a time when, after I passed adolescence, and became cognizant of the world around me, as best I could do, I believed that life was for having fun.
I was taught to believe this by the Kingston Trio.
Jackee and I got married so we could have fun TOGETHER for the rest of our lives…
That’s why we did it.
I don’t know about her ….but, I did it because that’s what the Kingston Trio had taught me to try to do.
54 years later,,,,I’m still trying to do it.
I haven’t given up.
Yes, there have been obstacles…..
Now, this country is facing one of the biggest it’s seen.
How does it recover from a year long pandemic?
(I got my first shot last week. I’ll get my second on n April 1.)
In the coming months …. nearly everyone will have been vaccinated.
But, this won’t turn the clock back…
When everyone has been vaccinated, the world will not be as it was when this virus first hit our country.
It will be far different.
For many people …. it will be very difficult to have fun.
Because they will be spending all of their time and efforts trying to find a way just to survive.
On the other hand…..
There will be a few of us who will be doing this too ….
We still want to have fun too.
Back when we were kids ….
There were these three guys who….
Didn’t want to get jobs when they finished college.
Instead, they wanted to wake up in the morning with hangovers ….
After singing, and then going to a place where they could get drunk, meet a gal, and go to
sleep (after enjoying the gal), and wake up the next day and do it again.
This is what we all wanted to do too.
Once we reached the age where we found out about sex and drinking beer.
These guys were able to do this. They were our heroes.
Like most things of this nature, it almost didn’t happen.
After four years of college at Menlo, Bob had gone back home.
His father wanted him to learn merchandising.
So, Bob was working at Sears.
At night, he was doing Elvis impressions.
Dave was still in California going to graduate school…
During the day…
At night, he had a band.
But, not a very good one.
It was missing Bob.
So, Nick went to Hawaii and brought back Bob.
That’s when it all began.
It would have never happened if Dave hadn’t stuck with the idea of doing what they wanted to do …make up songs, sing them, drink beer and ….
It would have never happened if Nick hadn’t gone to Hawaii to get Bob.
That’s when their lives took a decisive turn.
Each of us have taken decisive turns in our lives.
When we did, our lives didn’t turn out like their lives….
The real ones, or the make believe one.
Somewhere in the backs of our minds….
I think we all might still have a glimmer of hope that …….
We can live their fantasy of having fun all the time… in our own ways.
We would never have known this if we hadn’t been born at the right time.
