I had the 2nd McIntosh pre-amp and the 75 watt power amp.
The main transformer on the power amp went out and it cost a ton to repair and I sold the whole rig t a guy who fixed it and sold it to someone in Japan.
This was before there was an e-bay, and I had no clue that the Japanese were buying this stuff.
I used the money to buy my first camera that had auto focus.
I needed this badly .... for my work, so I have no complaints.
If you watch Bosch....you'll see that the has a 75 amp like mine.

The McIntosh sound was/is very clear.
But, it had no punch.
I've been using Sony and Denon recovers that I've bought used on e-bay for years.
They have a little more punch.
I've found that room acoustics is a very big factor in what you hear.
Also, when you have a really good system....you can hear the cover-ups in the recordings....over dubs...etc.
I heard a fix in a recent Tony Bennett album.
This really surprised me.
I suspect that most people are doing their listening on their cell phones today.
The high end audio equipment today is way past my budget for listening.
BTW, I'm starting to think....maybe I should hang on the old Thornes....
