Here is my Thornes turntable listed on e-bay.
In all...it's had almost a 1000 views since I listed it.
I have it at a very reasonable price.
It was the first piece of stereo equipment that I bought after Jackee and I got married in 1967.
I got it in 1968 and I think it cost about $250 at the local hi fi store.
I bought it on Lay-away and paid $20 or so bucks every month...over a year ... before I fully paid for it.
You won't believe what I first hooked it up to.
A little Magnavox stereo am-fm radio. The radio had one external speaker for stereo and RCA input jacks on the back.
Instead of spending my money on a receiver and speakers...I got the turntable because I wanted to protect my record albums...I wanted the tone arm that had the least downward weight and this was the one that had this better than any other.
About a year after I got it ... I put on lay-away a McIntosh Stereo system. Took a year to pay for it. The speakers I first got were the cheapest ones I could get.
A few years later ... in 1977, when we sold our house, I bought a used set of JBL L100s.... still considered to be the best studio monitors ever made.
5 or 10 years ago...I noticed that my turntable and SME tone arm were selling on e-bay for $1000.
Blew me away. The Japanese love this old stuff and they've pushed the price up.
Now, it's selling for over $2,000.
I stopped using my Thornes turntable about 15 years ago.
Because I bought a Technics turntable that's similar to this one because at the end of an album, the arm raises and goes back to the stand..

In the last....10 years...I may have listened to an album all the way through a few times. Just can't sit still that long, or have my ears doing only one thing...I will play an album all the way through in the background on napster which took over Rhapsody... that has about EVERY album under the moon.
We need the $$$ that's the big reason why I'm selling the Thornes...but, I want a $5,000 camera....made by Sony ... and if we didn't need the $$$ ... I'd be selling the turntable to get the camera...
Is someone going to pay over $2,000 for it? I think it will happen in a few months.
I'm thinking about buying a new cartridge for it. I had 2 new (old) ones and sold them for a ridiculous price on e-bay.
