The characters in Sam Beckett's play, "Waiting For Godot" - spend their entire time doing just that....
>>
Waiting for somebody who never shows up.
So many of us, myself included - spend much of our lives waiting for the next thing....
somehow believing that the "next thing" will make us happier.
Maybe it's a date with that gorgeous blonde across the street....
or getting hold of that 1959 Chevy (with the wings) you've always wanted....
or buying your dream house....or getting a pay raise....or whatever - the list goes on.
These days we are all waiting for Corona to get the hell out of our lives !!!
Waiting for when we can hold our loved ones again.
Waiting for when we can go out and eat....
and treat ourselves to fast food -- or slow food -- or any kind of food.
Waiting for a return to our "normal" way of living....
Going to work, going to school, going somewhere, going anywhere....
and then coming home again. {sometimes greeted with a kiss}
Trouble is, our lives are happening now. {today}
Waiting for the future and denying ourselves the joy of the present is a waste.
I guess we should all try to embrace the small things that keep us sustained....
and try to live this part of our lives the best way we can ----
- with passion...
- with laughter...
- with hope...
- and by singing...
speaking of which:
- from the liner notes on "Goin'Places" :
THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND - Woody Guthrie's greatest work.
Interestingly enough, some Canadians have also adapted this song,
using the words "From Bona Vista to Vancouver Island".
Who knows where it will be sung next? Everybody's welcome.
Brucester
ps: according to 'google' - "Waiting for Godot" follows 2 days in the lives of 2 men
who divert themselves while they wait expectantly and unsuccessfully for someone
named "Godot" to arrive. Somebody who will lift their spirits and change their lives.
{cannot confirm whether or not "Godot" refers to God}
STAY HEALTHY / BE SAFE / SING SONGS / DO NOT WAIT FOR "GODOT"
