Tony Polecastro is an excellent player and reviewer.
Being a confirmed Martin Man and owner over the years of about 50 high-end Martins, in 2006, upon my reentry into guitaring, I'd read the Taylor hype, and without even trying one pronounced myself a "Taylor Basher." Then, I tried my first Taylor in a store and thought, Hmmm, there's something here. Finally, later in 2006, I bought my first Taylor. with the new at the time magnetic pickups-based Expression System. I didn't like the amplified tone and returned it. Being the idiot I am. I purchased several more Taylors over the years but just wasn't enamored with the Magnetic-based Expression System. Finally, in 2013, Taylor revamped their Expression System, now called Expression System 2, with a rear of saddle piezo-based system that sounded much more acoustic-guitar-like as compared to the slightly electric-guitar-sounding original Expression System. Around this time, Taylor started developing refinements on their bracing systems and introducing new guitar models. All these changes really brought Taylor guitars into more acceptability with more players. Since 2006, I've owned about 25 Taylors.
Let me add, c'mon in folks, the Taylor water is fine!
