I have very strong feelings that are like yours.
I'm not arguing with you.
But, let me go a little deeper into my thinking.
I still haven't figured the following out.
The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and killed many innocent people.
Now we're friends with Japan.
The Germans killed tons of Jews.
Yet, we're working with Germany.
We stole this country from the Indians.
None of this makes sense.
Except, the people who were in power in Japan when Pearl Harbor was bombed are not in power anymore.
So, all is forgiven?
Yes and No.
There has to be some logic to this.
I believe that it is that only the present counts.
And, the future.
So, I'm looking to the future.
But, I sure as hell haven't forgotten the past.
My father was a Jew.
My mother's maiden name was Ireland.
You can't get anymore Irish than that.
Where does this leave me?
With a family background consisting of people who were persecuted.
A big part of me is mad as hell about this.
Tyranny is a terrible thing.
We still have a lot of it here.
My hero is Pete Seeger.
He knew the best way to beat it.
So, if some bad guys are singing Pete's song....
I believe that the song transcends their badness.
It doesn't excuse their badness.
It just overlooks it for the moment to serve a greater good.
