WOW!!!! You've nailed it Max! The Mills Brothers, it don't get any better. Although it can't be heard over the big band, the guitar work of Norman Brown is fantastic.
IMHO He's probably the finest guitar accompanist of all time. He could play those beautiful intros and fills, without ever stepping on the lines of the Mills Brothers.
A friend of mine does a local college radio show. He's had me come on a few times with a particular theme...sort of a teach the young'uns on the history of various genres.
A couple years back I had the honor of doing a Mills Brothers presentation on his show. Although the station does not have that strong a signal, it's on the internet and goes round the world. We got some nice feedback, even made a friend from across the pond!
The book "Four Boys and a Guitar" is a must for all Mills Bros. fans...
I have the show on CD, just let me know and I can snail mail a copy of it to you.
BTW I've also done a similar show on the Kingston Trio....TC
Let me tell you…I LOVE the new FOLK LEGENDS group …. George, Rick & Jerry…..
Folk music is cool….But…
I like other styles of music just as much....and in some instance more…..I don’t know how to describe it…..
Folk music was the beginning for me……
I branched out later in life…..
Diana Krall has the kind of music that I like best now…..
But, you can’t beat group….we all know that….
I don’t know why…..
But, this morning….
The Mills Brother’s UP A LAZY RIVER popped into my mind….
It’s a great song….but think it needs a banjo….
For the next few days….
I’m going to do a group marathon…
I think it will be fun !!!!!
Dean Martin loved the Mills brothers…he really did… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mills_Brothers https://www.nytimes.com/1999/11/15/nyregion/donald-mills-last-of-the-singing-mills-brothers-dies-at-84.html
