Thank you for your kind, and thoughtful response. I was not around for all of that activity to which you are referring. I was not aware of Marvin and when I saw some comments on Facebook and I saw videos of the group, I was shocked that this is what has happened to The Kingston Trio legacy. No one wants to hurt Bob Shane. I don't know GBR. I saw Grove once with Bob Shane and Bobby Haworth with The Atlanta Symphony. I just hate to see these guys limp off with the name and do it sub-standard.
I seriously doubt that anything that is said on the Kingston Trio sites will affect their ticket sales. That is not who is buying these tickets. Most of these ticket buyers cannot name the original members of The Kingston Trio. Does Mike Marvin really think that his autograph will be worth anything?
Anyway, thank you for permitting me to button this up.
My concern here in moderating talk of Mike & The Marvinettes is that I was granted the usage of "The Kingston Trio" name in my Kingston Trio Place website by Bob Shane and I'm honored to be associated with the name for over 20 years. I, too, was saddened by what happened to George, Bill, and Rick. Yes, Mike & The Marvinettes, need some work, for sure, and I'm not that interested in what they do. I don't discourage any posting regarding M&M, and the reason I exclaimed "Enough!" several months ago on the board was that the threads were degenerating into childish rants that had no place amongst adults. Taken to the extreme, we remember what fan zealotry resulted in for Dimebag Darrell--why did I use this example? I don't know!
I'm assuming that Bob Shane still derives some income from licensing The Kingston Trio name to Mike & The Marvinettes, and I want to remain a neutral party in any way that might harm that for Bob. For Mike Marvin's own sake, he better hope he can recoup and gain from his investment in paying for and using the KT name. Basically, although George, Bill and Rick got screwed, what it now comes down to is that Bob and Mike are the only ones with anything monetarily at stake in all the conversations surrounding M&M. Although I and we all value our opinions in the ongoing M&M story, that and a few bucks will get any of us a ride on the MTA.
Ken, Thank you. I don't have all of your data, and being new to your site I can only make a casual observation.
First let me say that your site was not flooded by my Facebook friends that weekend.
I made an observation which was buried in a thread on The KT Facebook Group's page. The posts were copied and pasted to the Folk USA site by someone else, not me. When I saw it posted there, I reposted it to your site. The word flew fast via social media throughout the Kingston Trio fan community, but not because of anything I did to boost your numbers. I believe it was that a person with a long track record and professional credibility in the music biz stood up to a bully and called the new group out to be what they are! Incompetent!
I understand that many people have moved on...its old news to them. But it obviously mattered to enough people to boost your numbers that weekend. Bobby Haworth definitely got under Marvin's skin as he bemoaned to me in a private message. He has been dealt a blow. I believe Marvin showed his true self in my communications with him. I can definitely say that I will NEVER pay money to see Marvin et al. It's a shame what they are doing to The Kingston Trio Legacy.
So, you will not see me laboring over this. I was surprised at how it all exploded. But quite simply, I believe that your members and others that weekend, tuned in to see a bully get his just rewards.
Please do so, Woody. Thanks.
Ken, may I give you my evaluation as to why the "Kerfuffle" garnered so much attention?
No conclusion other than it's been pretty quiet around here for the last few months. Thanks For Posting & Please Hang Around!
What was your conclusion?
It seemed that last week at this time, when we had a kerfuffle over Mike & The Marvinettes, we had a sudden influx of a new and a few old members here, and now crickets from them. Have I totally destroyed this message board with my standards? Simply put, what is different about this Sunday than last Sunday, other than last Sunday Woody posting about the new KT, which I don't really have a problem with. How about others posting something about this week's SASS artists or adding something about a band or artist you like?
