Rick Daly and I had a discussion about "Deportee" a few years ago. I miss our phone conversations.
Woody Guthrie's lyrics for "Deportee" detail the dehumanization and disregard for the lives of these
Mexikan farm workers....highlighting the injustices of our deporation system.
It addresses the racist and lack of respect shown to the deported workers.
The chorus cries out loud and clear:
Goodbye to my Juan,
Farewell, Rosalita.
Adios mis amigos, Jesus y Maria.
You won't have a name when you ride the big airplane,
All they will call you will be ---
Deportee.
