Here's my two cents regarding the Trio's Christmas album....
I think it's all very simple and I'll bet that Shane would say the same thing....
The Trio's Christmas album never got the recognition it deserved because some idiot at Capitol did not promote the album... it's that simple.
What none of us ever understood was that the public rarely had a say in what we heard on the radio or what we bought at the record stores....it was all a matter of payolla !!!!!!!!
Last Month of the Year was not a traditional Christmas album... it's that simple.
The Kingston Trio created the 1950s/1960s Folk era.
The people at Capitol didn't know what to think of the Trio ... they had to be categorized...so as Shane often said... they said ... here's some money "You're FOLK SINGERS!!!"
Over about a 25 year period...every year ... I bought a new Christmas Album.... So, I've got a ton of them... First off... Perry Como's are the best for the traditional songs...We all grew up with Johnny Mathis and the Conniff albums... unbeatable !!!
BTW, Carley Simon has a very interesting one.
But.... my all-time favorite is Tony Bennett's "Snow Fall" album... because it's not just about Christmas... it's a concept album and it's a great one.
It starts out without a traditional song ... one called "Snow Fall."
so, what do you think some idiot did with the CD re-issue? He changed the order of the songs so that the CD started with a traditional Christmas song !!!!!
Listen to it ... see what you think..
