Very interesting story behind it.....
In about 1983 I bought a left-handed D-35 at a pawn shop for $1,000 and it had one of these cases.
It had a very bad pick guard warp.
I took the pick guard off and it eventually got straightened out.
The 1970s weren't very good Martin years.
We moved to Greensboro, NC in 1985.
There was a Martin repair shop there and I was in the place once a week.
2 guys owned it and they had a solid flow of repair jobs.
I saw a lot of pre-war Martins there.
Chris Martin did a presentation there.
He'd just become the president of Martin.
He brought a gal with him that played a few songs and he had some interesting guitars to show people.
I showed him my D-35.
He made some suggestions for making it play better and I had the guys do what he suggested.
This included lowering the action as far down as it would go.
With that thin neck, it was a dream to play.
In 2009 we were in the BBQ biz.
The electric bill was $1,2000 every month.
Our restaurant was in the building where the first MCDonalds was located in Lexington.
There were big windows all a round.
A heating/cooling nightmare.
One month I had to hock the D-35 to pay the bill.
Of course, I was sure I'd be able to get it back.
WRONG !!!!!!!!!!
It was the best playing Martin I ever had.
The wood grain was very unusual.
Not Brazilian ....but, not your regular Indian rosewood.
I really liked that blue case.
So, when I had some money... I ordered one from Martin.
What I got was a 000 case.
Turned out ... they didn't have any more blue plastic dreadnaught cases.
I got another one and kept it.
And, eventually got the Goya 000.
They're cool cases.
You probably don't need a case.
One of these days...
I'll get a 000-35
Got the case.....
BTW, there were a million questions I should have asked Shane...what happened to his D-35?
I've seen 3 Brazilian D-35s in stores.
They've all been beat all to hell.
A nice one would be worth a lot.
