Re: Maestro is on Netflix now ... do you feel pretty?
We watched "Maestro" last night, and, quite honestly, I was disappointed. My disappointment stemmed from having been musically inspired by Bernstein when I was a child in watching his Young People's Concerts. Bernstein was a marvelous teacher and interpreter of the great Classics of Beethoven, Mozart, Shostakovich, Mahler et al. The movie was a tour de force for Cooper's portrayal of Bernstein, and I suspect an Academy Award for makeup. As a musician I would ALWAYS wish for more of an emphasis on music. As on observer of the human condition I understand the angst of his sexuality, especially for the times in which he lived, but the constant drumbeat of this proclivity was unnecessary in my opinion. Overall I did not care for the movie.
