I understand that Dave did the EMI albums to fulfil his contract with Capitol. I know little more about it than that.

The other albums that he played on anonymously or under an alias were more or less favours to artists he had met here. I don't think that he was paid anything to do it and in fact I did hear that he did not seek payment because of his EMI contract. This is of course word-of-mouth from people that knew him or worked with him here.

Dave was interested in forming a new group and sought to have Judith Durham join him before The Seekers found commercial success. His focus at the time was on an electric gospel sound.

Then his TV show came along in 1965 and it was partially undermined by the unions that prevented many of the international stars that Dave wanted from appearing with him on the programme.

He did musical clips for commercials and hosted some live folk concerts from time to time as well.

Why did he not do an album on his own? I do not know. I can think of several scenarios but they are all nothing but speculation.

So by around 1966 Dave's interests had drifted elsewhere. He went to Sweden for a while, worked with horses and then wrote his book on Colour Guitar.

By 1966 it seemed to Dave that the distance from the US was a factor affecting his chances of further international success, so he moved his family back to California and you know the rest from there.
