Edited by Ken Bradshaw on 7/26/2023, 9:45 pm Of course, someone with the original cassette may have put it on to CD and sold it on eBay as a bootleg. That may be what you have. Finally, Folk Era did release a CD called A Folk Era Sampler in 1987 that contained a couple of the tracks from Merrimac but I assume that is not the CD you have. Or is it? The cassette cat no is listed on the tray liner of that CD. I would be interested to see a picture or scan of the artwork for your CD, especially the CD label. That may explain things. I cannot find it on eBay. If you want to send it to me, Rick Daly will have my e-mail address to give you.
I can not explain why you have a CD version of that cassette.
I purchased All Along The Merrimac from Folk Era many years ago, probably the late 1990s, and I was told that it was cassette only.
Alan Shaw sent me a CD insert that did not list the tracks but at the time there was no CD available to put with it.
Maybe they released it later. Or maybe another company released the stuff after Folk Era ceased trading. But I do not think so.
The officially-released cassette was made to be sold at a concert tour of the same name and with the same performers, but I have a suspicion that Dave Guard's four songs may be from an album that he recorded with The MFQ around 1978. The album was rejected by Capitol Records and has not been heard of since. It is not the same album that was released later as Up and In.
