Gordon Lightfoot once told Montreal radio host, Aaron Rand, via telephone call, he knew some of his songs would not make it through.
Gordo said it's part of the business and you get used to it; but what really bothered him was all the travelling. Gordon tells Aaron:
"You're at the mercy of so many people out there, from getting to the airport and catching connecting flights....
and then getting stuck in some lousy hotel room. It happened more often than I expected."
Aaron Rand said....
"I remember Sylvia Tyson complained about cockroaches in a Greenwich Village Hotel, where Ian & Sylvia were staying."
Gordon Lightfoot snapped back....
"Yeah, but at least the Hotel didn't charge 'em extra for those roaches!" (hahahaha)

ps: speaking of Hotel Rooms....
<> Shelley Berman calls the Front Desk:
Thank you Brucester for clearing that up for me. I don't see how "Too Much To Lose" never made it on an album until Songbook. Great song. MTABob
Good Morning, MTABob:
Besides "Don Quixote" being a great song (intended for a lousy movie, hahaha)....
the album by the same name is also waaaay up there !!!
Gordo's "Don Quixote" LP (rel: Reprise Records/1972) hardly left our record player.
To answer your question regarding the song "Too Much To Lose"....
Here's what GORDON LIGHTFOOT had to say about it:
"That song was up for a Paul Newman movie ~ Cool Hand Luke ~ but they didn't want it.
Maybe it wasn't cool enough! I guess after that, I didn't want it either.
Not cool enough for Luke, I still consider it the coolest song we got out of the vault." - Gordon Lightfoot
Brucester
Brucester, Thanks for the background. I think its a good thing "Don Quixote" didn't get associated with that movie! LOL. Was "Too Much To Lose" also written for this movie? MTABob
P.S. This was the only version I could find. Gordon did a much better one (IMHO) on his songbook collection.
