Re: Astrud Gilberto passes
My Aunt, who is 7 years older than me, was, and I guess still is though she's 80 something, a singer and was trying to really get into the business back when we were younger. I used to play the guitar for her at auditions, and so I had to learn some of those bossa nova type songs. Talk about screwed up chords! But I managed and played some auditions with her. I was about eighteen and she was off her first divorce so we hung out a lot. Played tennis, music, did some partying. It was a nice thing just hanging out with the music. Oh, I have to mention she was cute too! She's a widow living somewhere in Florida now. Haven't seen or talked to her in probably thirty years. But I thank her for getting me into that Jobim kind of music and learning to actually play some of it, even if I dislocated my fingers playing the chords. And I thought the chords to Scotch and Soda the way they appeared in the Trio's music book were vicious. I think the key was E-flat!
