Admittedly, at first, I resented John, and felt he should've stayed with THE CUMBERLAND THREE
(a folksinging trio he formed together with John Montgomery and Gil Robins).
Trouble is....to dismiss "Nick Bob John" as the second incarnation of THE KINGSTON TRIO
would be to dismiss all their Capitol albums from "Close-Up" to "Back In Town" (1961-1964)....
plus those 4 albums they recorded for Decca. (1964-1967)
And what about those NBJ "Hits"???

Bottom line: There was the original KINGSTON TRIO (1958-1961) => Dave Guard + Bob Shane + Nick Reynolds,
and there was the "semi-original" KINGSTON TRIO => Bob Shane + Nick Reynolds + John Stewart

This is the REAL Kingston Trio.
One we rarely saw.

As I recall, there was a discussion about the "Original Kingston Trio" and some included the Shane Reynolds Stewart line up as original trio. Bob Shane posted that "there was only one original: Guard Shane Reynolds. John Stewart was the first replacement."
