Well, Terry I guess I'd better be judicious with my comments since you're friends with him. But I'll just tell you a story which established my long-held opinion of Buddy.
George had conceived and organized the "Recombinents" set for the 45th Anniversary event. He came up with the name to reference the fact that we were all 2nd gen members of The Brothers Four, The Limes and The Trio. Except Buddy Woodward. I'd never heard of him and before we left for the date George tried to get Bob and me to chip in and help cover Buddy's travel and hotel expense. We both declined.
On the night of the show, we were all assembled ready to take the stage and when the MC announced the Recombinents, Buddy jumped on stage ahead of all of us and took the center mic. I was dumbfounded because - well - who the hell is Buddy Woodward??? And several audience members commented about it after the show.
Other than that, I guess he's an OK musician, tho not outstanding in my mind. Are you aware that Buddy was in Josh Reynolds' "after the Trio" band (what were they called?) along with Tom Guard? And it's kinda funny to see the Marvinettes in a position of having to replace Josh yet again. I wonder why Don left?
Buddy Woodward - That guy? I don't see how you can put his ego and Mike's in the same room. Buddy's ego is big enough to warrant its own seat on an airplane. This will never fly. He's one of those "the gear makes the man" guys. He's got "era appropriate" gear to fit in to almost any group...at least visually. To me he's a case of "poor little rich boy." He was going to join Tom Guard and Josh Reynolds for some kind of "tribute" act to either the Trio or the Hot Licks, the band that backed the late Dan Hicks. Whatever. It didn't get off the ground. But hey, I remember some really cool pictures of the group featuring Josh singing and playing a toy light sabre. Gotta be worth somthin'."
