Alabama Rain is one of my favorite Jim Croce songs. Reminds me of summer as a kid. MTABob
So, to keep the old chops up between paying gigs (few and far between nowadays). I attend local jam sessions/open mics. The one I'll be going to tonight usually has several folks into older country stuff, 70's and earlier. Throw in some 50's R&R. This particular worm has been on my mind for tonight's little mini set. Everly Bros. classic "So sad to watch good love go bad". Included will also be "Alabama Rain" (Jim Croce), "Help me make it through the night" and "Brown Eyed Girl"...Now Brown eyed girl, seems a bit out of place. I'm celebrating my 50th year anniversary "Tour" My first paying gig was in 1972. I was fronting a Rockabilly, oldies but goodies group. The owner of the group made all the rules and has his own "Memorized" set list. He had a good memory...good for at least 5, maybe 6 songs before starting over. It was not unusual to have to sing "Brown eyed Girl" (the tune he'd always call out when he couldn't come up with anything else), TEN times in a five set bar night! Like it or not it's part of the history....and it's fun too. :>)
