I was born in 1962 so I have no recollections of when they first came out. I got into the Journeymen by buying the Capitol Collectors Series: The Journeymen compilation CD about 20 or so years ago based on a recommendation from Pete Curry. The Stewart Trio version of 500 Miles is my favorite song of all time (I literally heard it in utero as my elder brother played Trio LPs over and over) and Pete recommended the Journeymen version of the song, which I think is superb, especially the interplay between guitar and banjo in the intro and solo. I pretty much like the rest of the tracks on the compilation CD. So, my first exposure to the Journeymen was listening to the compilation CD and it was very positive.

I would be curious to hear what members here thought of the Journeymen when they first came out. I remember seeing the first album in the LP bin. I saw that it was Capitol Records and that V. Gilmore was listed, so I was interested. When I put the record on and River She come Down came on I was very impressed as I was generally with the rest of the cuts. The second live album I was not as impressed although I liked it. They didn't have the "it" factor in a live setting like KT did.
