FLT began 2022 with a magical concert at the Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach. For those of you who have never been to Laguna Beach, CA, it began its life as an Artist’s Colony umpteen years ago, and is now a mature and beautiful community with so much to offer in the way of art, restaurants, beautiful beaches, iconic Southern California hotels and bars, and the perpetual search for parking spaces. (Remember JS’s line about a 5yr school….4 years of study and a year trying to find a place to park!)

I imagine 2022 as being a difficult year in which to find bookings for the FLT, for two reasons. First is the fact that ALL of us entertainers suffered a 15 month hiatus because of COVID. Now most of those postponed contracts are being bottlenecked into 2022, so new bookings aren’t available until 2023. Second, we still have the same conundrum: even though we’re being hailed now by the press as the “Living Library” of the Great Folk Era, it doesn’t supersede having a known name brand. It’s simply a fact that a venue will take the easier route of booking a well-known name like the Kingston Trio, the Brothers Four or The Limeliters.

Although your suggestions are much appreciated for wonderful venues that we should play in your area, those venues really don’t want to hear from me, the artist. It’s reminiscent of fifty years ago in Nashville when I was calling every Holiday Inn and Howard Johnson lounge trying to find a gig — like being a lounge act again as opposed to a major attraction with 50 years of experience. Venues prefer hearing either from agents, who have vetted artists, or from their patrons, who tell the venues who they want to see and for whom they are willing to purchase a ticket.

So the point of this posting is to ask you to approach the venue in your area at which you may have seen us perform in our prior professional lives and at which you would like to see the Folk Legacy Trio perform. If they hear from you, perhaps it will pique their interest. Thanks, and we hope to see you sometime in 2022.
