Of course now that I'm retired with a modest income to stroll into the shop and buy a new D 28...ain't gonna happen. Although I have a couple of Maple arch top's mahogany and birch as well. Throw in, the flatop department, Mahogany and Koa Martin,...sapele and a Koa Taylor, couple of mahogany Gibson and Yamaha and a ???Ovation. There's NO rosewood in the stable. That's just NOT right! I once owned a Martin D 41..it was beautiful but played horribly (Yes after being sent back to Martin as well as being tweaked by some qualified luthiers). The neck was like a baseball bat and regardless of strings or set up, it sounded like a piano. Got in in the early 70's and kept it for 30 or so years before giving up on it and selling it, for a good price to a happy new owner. So...NO rosewood. Although I mostly stay away from imports, Yamaha has a Rosewood dred ( laminate I'm sure) that plays great and has a Martin like deep RW sound for under $400.00. I dunno......
Rick ........
I was going to ask you how you're doin...
I can't open the pic.
I guess you know i'm a big willie fan.
I've seen all of the videos on Trigger.
An interesting thing about Trigger.
BTW, I've kicked myself a million times for not going to see Willie and Bob dylan when they did a show together in Lexington at the ball park back in about 2009.
I was dealing with restaurant problems then.
Back to Trigger.
I got my first D-28 in Nashville in 1965.
It was a right-handed guitar.
About 6 months old.
The first owner traded it for another guitar.
I asked the guy at the store where i could go to get it made left-handed.
He sent me to the same guy who made Trigger.
He cut a new slot for the saddle on the bridge and filled the original one in with wood filler and put a new nut on it.
I later got another guy to add another pick guard.
In about 1986, i had it put back right-handed so my father-in-law could play it.
That's how it is now.
I sold my factory left-handed D-28, that I got in 1978. Needed the $$$$$$$$$
So, I don't have a D-=28 that i can play.
But, I can't play much anyway...got no feeling in my finger tips...due to diabetes.... which ain't real bad... but I also have arthritis in my thumb.
I can still strum my tenor....
That's enough for me ........
But, I still wish I had a D-28 that I can play
I'll get one as soon as I win the lottery.
I'm about half way through Willie's new book.
I keep it in the John.
I'm workin on Sunnyside.....
Get this...
Which one do you like best?
Max
