It's Monday.......
There have been hundreds of these Mondays...
After a show...
Big let down to have to go back to...
my world.
If you were to ask me what song I liked best that Folk Legacy Trio did in their show on Saturday afternoon……….
I’d have no trouble deciding which one……….
World I Used To Know
Yep….that one.
A long time favorite.
From the Back In Town album….
Of course, it’s a Rod McKuen song.
His were the best!
There were a lot of great songs on the DECCA albums.
But, something very important was lost when the Trio left Capitol.
I should have said ……..things.
Voyle was probably the most important.
Since this song was on the last Capitol …….
This…… in itself made the song special.
My guess is that Glen Campbell did most of the guitar work.
He recorded this song and his version is below.
I never completely understood what this song was about …….
But……..
When it came out….due to the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights demonstrations….
Older people were already saying…….this ain’t how it used to be.
This is what older people always say…..
My life was going through some big changes when this album came out….
I don’t know where it came from ….but I was certain that there would be a day when I’d be saying this too.
There’s a part of me that believes that life is just one big de javu…..
When I was a kid……..
I was playing football with some of the kids in the neighborhood.
We were playing in my front yard…..which almost never happened.
Because we usually played in my neighbor’s yard.
I don’t know why………..
But, after a down…one kid said what he was going to be when he grew up…
Then, a few others said what they were going to do…..
I don’t remember what any of them said……
I was about to tell what I was going to do……
And, a voice inside my head said to me……
That ain’t gonna happen…
You’re going to…..and you’re going to screw it up most of the time….
I’ve always wondered …..how’d that voice know that?
Well…. I thought to myself……..
If that’s how it’s gonna be….
I’m going to have the most fun I can have……while I’m screwing up
I thought it was the best song on the Back In Town album.
My idea of what the song was about has always stuck with me.
All of the McKuen songs have……
So, I’m really glad that the guys are doing this song.
For their audience….this song may have more meaning than any of their other songs.
When George introduced it he told about meeting Jimmy Rodgers……..
He was a really nice guy…..in a business that’s not always nice.
His version of the song charted.
I can remember when I first heard his version.
I was at Ray’s Drive-in ……eating …..a hamburger.
I liked all of Jimmy’s songs.
He had some great ones.
Plus, he had a nice smooth voice.
