I believe that that particular tune was not recorded by the Weavers, the Trio's usual early source, so how did they find it?
Was it referred by Lou Gottlieb? Or was One of them (likely Dave) able to scour "Folk Song U.S.A." and was able to read music?
"Folk Song U.S.A." is a 1947 pocketbook by the Lomaxes and the Seegers which contains "Saro Jane" on pg. 197. Interestingly, it is surrounded by some other familiar tunes to Kingston Trio fans : "Blow Ye Winds" pg. 190, "Santy Anno" ("Sacramento") pg. 186, "Shenandoah" Pg. 184, "Santy Anno" Pg. 182.
Ws this their repertoire "gold mine?"
SMTLSLT.
