Thanks for your memories, George. When I think of Trini Lopez, I always see a smile on his face. Love to all at your house.
When Bill, Rick & I (and others) did the last PBS show, filmed at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood (across from the Capitol Record Tower) in June of 2015, Trini Lopez was one of the guest stars. I had never met him before, but he proved to be one of the kindest, most joyful people I've ever met. His successes and his fame were merely by-products of what he did, not a definition of who he was.
I also remember that he was suffering from a severe case of shingles which had severely affected the use of his right hand and arm. But he bore into his guitar solo as if he were hitting every note spot-on, and the joy on his face was real.
As I think back on my history with the group, it's meeting people like Trini Lopez that I miss more than anything. His appearance on the show was a surprise to me, his demeanor was a surprise, but his heart was real.
