I'm going to show four different versions of the song. All put a different spin on the song but all sound great to me. I'll start with the author himself as well as Peter Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio and last but not least, Eva Cassidy who I just recently discovered! (Where have I been for the last 24 years? What a voice!)
More of a fare the well from PPM. Certainly sadder sounding.
John Stewart's 12 string gives Early Morning Rain a much more upbeat tempo. Doesn't sound like a sad song at all to me when the Trio sings it.
I found Eva Cassidy's version just this week. She tragically passed away at the age of 33 almost 25 years ago. Her version has a jazz feel to me. What do you all think? It hit #1 on Englands billboard charts two years after her death.
Early Morning Rain has been covered by Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Glen Campbell, Grateful Dead, Allison Kraus and many many more. I'm interested in what you all think makes a song great and your nominees for that title. Stay safe everyone! MTABob
